Probation chief says state limits will curtail use of local probation fees; county has three years to comply

Chief Probation Officer Dave Beery told the committee that the State/AOIC has imposed new limits on the permitted uses of probation fees and that DeWitt County has a three‑year phase‑in period to comply. Beery said that in the last five years he used between $32,000 and $54,000 from the probation fines/fee fund to support operations and that additional information will be provided to the committee as the department prepares its FY26 budget request.
Beery indicated he will still submit his budget requests for FY26 "as usual" while working with the committee to adjust to the new rules. The committee asked for follow‑up materials so members can assess budget and service impacts before making related funding decisions.
