Paramedic Services urges DeWitt County to raise ambulance levy to cover rising costs

Representatives from Paramedic Services of Illinois — Mike Disilvestro, Brian Holman and Jeff Kiesling — told the DeWitt County Finance Committee on July 21 that they need the county to raise the ambulance levy to cover rising costs for compensation, operations and aging ambulances. Committee members asked about other revenue sources; the company said it will provide additional revenue information to the committee.
State's Attorney Dan Markwell told the committee the current contract with Paramedic Services of Illinois expires at the same time as the county's agreement with Clinton Power Station, and that the power station agreement limits the maximum amount that can be taxed for ambulance services to the power station. Markwell suggested Paramedic Services may want to consult with the power station about additional funding. Mike Disilvestro emphasized the personnel issue, saying the need to raise wages is to "keep and attract employees." The committee requested further revenue details before taking action.
