A Select Board member reported that both the highway and general budgets for fiscal 2026 came in under budget, creating a surplus. "I can tell you that both the highway and the general budget came in under budget, so there is a surplus," Speaker 1 said, noting additional revenue arrived because payment for a bridge/culvert project was posted in FY26 though it had been expected in FY25.
Board members discussed that portions of the funds are already spoken for — for example, paving and ongoing projects — and that the town will need to determine lawful and prudent allocations. They noted timing and authorization constraints on how excess funds can be spent and expect to address allocations in next budget-cycle discussions.
