Commission approves multiple right-of-way donations, utility certificates and bridge project preparations

The commission approved a series of infrastructure items linked to planned bridge replacements and roadway work. Staff described voluntary donations of right of way from private owners covering east and west sides of project corridors and explained the county had notified utilities that relocation may be required for construction tied to PCN project numbers 09GT and 09GU.

Highway staff said they anticipate bidding for related structure reconstruction in June or July with construction likely in the fall or next year and that donations and utility outreach are intended to prevent encroachments while projects proceed. The board also approved a procurement resolution authorizing purchases of corrugated metal pipe, bridge materials and grader blades based on another county's bid process to save shipping and procurement costs for townships.

Staff emphasized that the county will try to bid two structures concurrently but will consider phasing to avoid closing both at once. "We are going to bid these structures concurrently... we're anticipating that 1 contractor would most likely end up with the 2 structures," staff said. Commissioners approved the related utility certificates, right-of-way donations and procurement motions by roll-call vote.
