Tinmouth SWAC surveys compactors, transfer-station options as part of solid-waste review

A Select Board member reported that the Solid Waste & Recycling Committee (SWAC) is surveying other Solid Waste Alliance communities to determine compactor use and transfer-station arrangements. "They came up with a survey we're sending to all the other SWEC members," Speaker 1 said, and the committee found that four communities do not have transfer stations and either send residents elsewhere or contract in haulers.
The committee is collecting information on equipment needs, costs and whether 3-phase power would be required at a proposed site; speakers cautioned the effort could grow into a larger capital project and said decisions on locating a compactor will be part of future discussions about highway and capital spending.
