Recycling alliance update: household hazardous waste facility to open May 18

A town recycling representative updated the Select Board on regional recycling efforts and staffing. She said the alliance (run by BCRC) increased its budget from $5,600 to $6,800 this year and has hired an outreach coordinator, John Pitra, to visit schools and businesses across the 13‑town alliance area. "The alliance has hired an outreach manager... he goes to every school and every business in the Alliance area," she said.
The board was told the household hazardous waste facility will open on May 18 and is expected to operate at least 18 hours weekly to meet state minimums; the representative said the town will try 19 hours to assess demand. The group discussed ideas for improving Green‑Up Day outreach, including distributing bags earlier and tallying participation at the recycling center.
