The mayor (speaker S1) said the role should "bring stuff to us" for decisions rather than act as a standalone director: "That person's job is just gonna bring it to us. Do you want it or not?" Council members repeatedly asked that the description avoid conferring hiring or signatory power without specific ordinances. One council member (S8) urged clarity so the position would not be treated as a city manager: "They're not gonna supervise and coordinate all municipal activities — cross it out." The group removed or reworded several bullets that had presented the role as an executive manager.
Council members also agreed to remove the current advertisement from the Texas Municipal League (TML) posting and to ask staff to redraft the description and post an updated notice after legal and city‑secretary review. Speaker S3 criticized the existing posting bluntly: "it's horseshit today," and said applicants would be wasting time if the document remained in its current form. The council instructed staff to return a finalized draft for formal consideration at the next meeting and to coordinate how the hiring fits into the March budget amendment process.
