Committee asks to compare solar, electric and gas options during schematic design

Several trustees asked that the design team model energy alternatives and present comparative costs and efficiencies during schematic design.
Trustee Jetty urged the committee to ensure early examination of alternatives beyond fossil fuels, including solar and other sources. Staff responded that the design team and engineers will analyze systems, comply with state energy code, and present cost‑benefit information during schematic design so the committee can weigh tradeoffs. As one staff member put it, engineers will "show you the pros and cons" and give recommendations on HVAC and envelope decisions.
Members were told the schematic phase is the right time to make major decisions about systems because later phases are intended to refine rather than restructure the project's scope.
