County suicide postvention program offered to South Weber; council given resource cards and website

A representative involved in a Davis County suicide postvention working group described a coordinated after‑death response designed to support people affected by a suicide and reduce the risk of additional suicides. The presenter said the working group (formed in 2023) produced pocket cards and a 19‑page online resource accessed by QR code; the materials are intended for distribution by investigators, funeral homes, hospitals, schools, faith leaders and other community partners.
"An organized response aimed at supporting affected in affected individuals could alleviate suffering and emotional distress and to prevent additional trauma and contagions," the presenter said while explaining the postvention approach. The presenter summarized evidence for postvention benefits, citing a large-scale study showing people who knew someone who died by suicide were more likely to experience suicidal thoughts, plans and attempts.
Council members thanked the presenter and several members tested the resources in real time: one council member reported, "I did use the QR code, and it's 19 pages." The presenter left printed cards for the council to distribute and said the county team is working with the medical examiner and local partners to lawfully notify families and connect them to resources after a death.
The presentation generated requests from council members to review the materials; the council did not take formal action but accepted the resources and the presenter’s offer to provide materials for local distribution.
