The board approved reappointment of the District School Safety and Security Committee to comply with Texas Education Code requirements and to add a special-education administrator designee. Chief Faz presented the committee membership and named current and proposed members; the superintendent confirmed the district will post and ensure required members are included.
Separately, trustees approved adding three campus security screener positions (to be funded from a safety grant fund, 211) to staff metal detectors and perform related duties at the high school and freshman campus. The superintendent and chief of police said the positions will relieve police officers from some screening duties; the chief will provide initial training and oversight. Trustees discussed training standards and hiring preferences (experience in security, law enforcement, military or corrections); administration said assignments will be finalized after assessing officer availability.
