Wadsworth proclaims Public Safety Telecommunicators Week; dispatch supervisor thanks council

Mayor Robin L. Laubaugh presented a proclamation at the April 21 meeting of the Wadsworth City Council designating April 12–18, 2026 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in the city. Laubaugh praised the dispatch staff for their role in ensuring timely information reaches police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel.
"They were a tremendous resource for our community," Laubaugh said as she presented the proclamation recognizing the precision and reliability of local telecommunicators. The proclamation text cited dispatchers' contributions to apprehension of criminals, suppression of fires and treatment of patients and called on citizens to honor their service.
Katy Cindia, the Wadsworth Emergency Dispatch Supervisor, introduced herself and thanked the mayor and council. She said she has worked for the Wadsworth Police Department for 17 years and has been the first supervisor for the Dispatch Department for the past three years. "We were the Wadsworth Emergency Dispatch that served the Citizens of Wadsworth," Cindia said, contrasting the city's single‑agency dispatch model with larger consolidated centers and emphasizing the value of staying on the line with callers.
Cindia described dispatchers as calm under pressure and skilled at handling simultaneous radio traffic, multiple calls and technology. Her remarks concluded with applause from the council chamber. The proclamation was signed by Mayor Laubaugh and entered into the meeting record.
