The Floresville ISD Board of Trustees on Feb. 3 approved two amendments to the district's District of Innovation (DOI) plan, changes administration said will provide flexibility in teacher contract days and probationary contract length.
Dr. Wade explained the amendments would permit the district to reduce teacher contract days below 187 during the DOI plan term (2022–2027) and to extend probationary contracts to three years for teachers who have been employed in public education for five of the previous eight years. She said the district of innovation committee and the district education improvement committee had reviewed and recommended the amendments.
Administration recommended board approval to allow prompt notification to the Texas Education Agency; trustees moved, seconded and approved the amendments by a 5–0 vote. Dr. Wade said that if the board approves the amendment, staff will notify TEA and the amendments will take effect for the remainder of the current DOI period through 2027.
What happens next: Administration will notify the TEA and implement the amended DOI provisions as appropriate; the board will monitor impacts on staffing and contracts.
