Floresville ISD to request ESL waiver for four high-school teachers, district says

Dr. Wade presented the annual evaluation of bilingual and English-as-a-second-language (ESL) services and told the board the district will request a waiver to cover four teachers currently assigned to advanced English who are not certified in ESL. "So we are going to request a waiver for those 4 teachers," he said, and added the submission must be filed by Nov. 1.
Wade explained the waiver process requires setting aside a percentage of professional-learning allotment for the targeted teachers and outlined supports: intensive coaching cycles with the district's emergent-bilingual facilitator, paid review classes for teachers to test for ESL certification, and reimbursement for testing costs. He also reviewed test results (TELPAS and STAR) showing pockets of strength at several grade levels and noted 21 students were reclassified from emergent bilingual status last year at the high-school level.
