Resident urges council not to place stop sign in Elliott curve, urges T-intersection or roundabout

Brad Bates, a Pryor Creek resident who spoke during the audience-petition portion of the meeting, urged the council not to place a stop sign in the curve on South Elliott near 29th Street and described safety and queuing concerns for apartments and school traffic. Bates said he contacted ODOT and a traffic engineer and reported: "Said you don't put a stop sign in a curve."
Bates told the council he has lived on the road since 1962 and described what he called limited collision history but regular congestion during afternoon peak times. He argued a stop sign could push the next point of stoppage back to 17th and Elliot and potentially block apartment entrances. Bates suggested a traffic circle or a T-intersection as preferable alternatives and said such fixes are expensive but may be less costly than potential liability from locating a sign on a curve.
