Parks committee accepts Milliken bid for walking track; commissioners later debate pausing the project

Parks and Recreation reported that plants and bushes were installed around the new playground and that the committee accepted a Milliken Group bid to repair the walking track; the bid was within the $124,000 allocation the commission had approved earlier.
'2 Milliken Group had submitted a bid... it was slightly higher than initial bid, but still within the $124,000 approved by the previously by the commission,' the committee reported. The committee voted to proceed with that bid so the project could meet scheduling needs. Bubba Gregory said the committee will follow up to work out lighting for youth-football practice at the amphitheater area.
Later in the meeting, Commissioner Alan proposed stopping the track project to get additional information from the highway department and explore cost savings. That pause motion was seconded but failed on the electronic vote 8 yes, 9 no, 2 abstain and 1 absent. Commissioners requested that the road superintendent attend the August meeting to explain equipment and cost estimates.
