Board members gave an update on the PPEA (public-private educational and administrative) process for a proposed courthouse project. Two firms have submitted concept proposals and met with stakeholders (sheriff, Commonwealth attorney, circuit and general district clerks) to identify courtroom and office needs; the board expects to issue an RFP in mid-June and narrow proposals to finalists for public presentations in July or August.
The firms provided conceptual layouts and requested confidentiality while their concepts remain working papers; the board’s attorney required each interested firm to submit a deposit (a check of at least $5,000) to cover attorney-review costs, refundable after fees. Board members said they will post updates in board packages and notify the public when presentations move from working sessions to public hearings. Committee members will narrow selections before the full board votes on any recommended firm.
