Brandy Thompson, economic services program administrator, briefed the board on the department’s income-based programs July 28 and reported program-integrity recoveries for June.
Thompson explained Medicaid eligibility categories and processing windows, described SNAP (food and nutrition) as the program with the most client interaction and noted strict timeliness standards that make staffing retention difficult. "Food and nutrition has very strict time processing for their applications and recertification," Thompson said, emphasizing how those timing pressures affect staffing.
She summarized specific programs and processing times: SNAP standard processing (30 days; expedited 7 days), Medicaid variant windows (30–90 days depending on subtype), Work First/TANF processing (45 days) and childcare and energy-assistance programs (SIP allotments of $600 per household per fiscal year; LIEAP single seasonal payments that vary by income). Thompson said parent fees for subsidized childcare are calculated at 10% of household income and that program funds are paid to vendors directly for energy assistance.
On program integrity, Thompson said the department collected $44,422.51 in June and clarified those funds return to the originating program rather than to the department’s general budget. "For the month of June, the total collections from program integrity was $44,422.51," she told the board.
Thompson reviewed application pathways (online, in person, or by phone) and provided local contact information for applicants.
