A Virginia Department of Transportation representative presented the draft secondary six‑year plan for Nottoway County and walked supervisors through funding scenarios, project sequencing and constraints.
The presenter said Crystal Lake Road is the top priority and "the project is fully funded," with construction planned to begin in the next couple of weeks. Williamson Road was described as delayed until a right‑of‑way study resolves privately owned easement issues at the Courthouse Road intersection; the presenter said the county is "in the process now" of identifying landowners and completing right‑of‑way acquisition. Other projects listed by priority were Barnes Lane (funded to completion in fiscal year 2028) and Hawthorne Drive (funding completion in fiscal year 2031).
Staff also explained how local tele‑fee funds are treated in the plan. "Right now, going into this fiscal year, we have a $162,000 in that account," the presenter said, adding that the county will accrue about $33,000 a year into the balance entry account. He told the board the funds can be dedicated to guardrail installation or used when a route does not meet rural‑rustic vehicle thresholds and the county wants a hard surface.
The board agreed to add the plan to the May 15 regular meeting agenda for a public hearing and formal adoption. The VDOT representative continued with other maintenance items in his regular report, including Route 46 bridge pours and planned sinusoidal edge rumble strips on Route 360 aimed at reducing run‑off‑the‑road crashes.
