Commissioners say Active911 mapping sent responders to wrong addresses; Apple Maps preferred locally

Lancaster County commissioners raised problems with Active911 and GIS mapping that in some cases sent responders to the wrong county or to a similarly named road in another jurisdiction. Members described instances where dispatch entries caused a map to point to an address in a neighboring county rather than the actual incident location.
"When you go to Active911 and try to map it, it's somewhere up in Van Wack... When we go to Mecklenburg County, it'll send us to Heath Springs sometime," one member said, illustrating how address-entry variations can misroute crews. Staff advised that on Apple phones users can switch the FirstView app to Apple Maps because Google Maps sometimes directs to an incorrect location; commissioners said they will inform crews and update guidance to reduce navigation errors.
The commission also discussed improving GIS entries at dispatch to reduce cross-county misrouting and requested staff to follow up with dispatch partners about address validation procedures.
