Fire commission advances FirstView rollout, emphasizes user logins and privacy

Lancaster County fire commission members on Aug. 3 discussed the countywide rollout of FirstView — a centralized incident-reporting system — and laid out training, device-login and privacy expectations. Staff described plans to import station equipment lists into FirstView, provide chiefs-level training, and require individual logins for mounted iPads on apparatus.
"All iPads have been mounted... They have their own login. So please do not log [others] out of them iPads because we'll have to come log them back in," said a staff member, noting that some report functions work better on county-provided Toughbooks or desktops. The same staff member urged users not to share passwords, saying the system tags actions and that inappropriate access can be traced.
Commissioners debated adding a local quality-control (QC) check so officers could perform a preliminary review while preserving a final-authority sign-off at the department level. The commission also agreed to continue outreach to department chiefs to complete equipment imports and to schedule demonstrations by staffers who will show how to view reports and maintenance work orders in FirstView.
The discussion emphasized operational steps and privacy limitations rather than formal policy changes. Commissioners asked for clearer local QC steps and timelines for when equipment inventories will be available in the system.
