The Select Board heard an update on the town library renovation project, including newly discovered rot in the steeple that will require engineered repair and additional work beyond the original contract. The library representative said the contractor removed siding and found unanticipated rot; an engineer has drawn a repair plan and the town will obtain estimates for the work.
“We had to seal it up and close it up… and then that price tag is gonna be whatever it's gonna be, and that is over and above everything we knew about,” the library representative said, describing the steeple repair needs. The board reviewed change order number 4—items added during construction such as trim, window sills and other adjustments—and approved the change order. The amount recorded in the meeting materials was $15,812.12.
Board members also discussed potential outside funding: the library said it has a promising lead with Preservation Trust Vermont for steeple work and is exploring Charge Vermont funding for an EV charger that was removed from the main project until funding is secured. The library group said it will continue fundraising and report back on grant progress and any additional town requests.
