A public commenter representing the Strawberry Jam 5K and 10K told the Middletown Springs Select Board that the event benefits the local elementary school and asked for sheriff support to stop traffic at the town’s four corners during the race.
“At the board pleases, with some time from the sheriff’s department, we can go ahead and… book them to sort of help us regulate traffic,” the public commenter said. Board members discussed typical staffing—usually one deputy at the 4 Corners and volunteers at other intersections—and confirmed the event’s safety plan includes volunteer sweepers and fire-department assistance. The commenter noted organizers have submitted a permit and expect a signature; the board then voted to provide sheriff time once the permit is signed.
The board asked the organizer to keep the sheriff’s office on the event email thread and to confirm the finalized date and staffing. A board member reminded organizers to coordinate a volunteer to act as the last-person-in sweep so traffic control can be shifted as runners finish. The motion to provide sheriff assistance passed without recorded opposition.
