During public comment at the June 4 meeting, several Webster residents urged the board to prioritize preserving the town's post office and asked what alternate locations might satisfy U.S. Postal Service requirements.
Residents Louise Runyon, Phyllis Jarvinen, Susan Raaf and Kate McKittrick — joined by an anonymous commenter — asked about feasibility of different sites and whether a community petition would help. Mayor Tracy Rodes told the board that the USPS required "1,000 sq feet of heated space, a side delivery entrance, and 12 parking spaces." Commissioners discussed possible alternate locations and agreed to continue the discussion at the July meeting.
Separately, Mayor Rodes said the town attorney had spoken with the post office property's owner and the owner's attorney, who indicated the owner is not interested in selling the building at this time. Commissioners did not take further action at the June meeting but listed the item for continued discussion in July.
