During public comment, Ed Como asked the sheriff to clarify rumors that the sheriff's office had backed out of the federal 287(g) program because of a flood of public records requests. Sheriff Shadi responded that the office "never backed out of it" and that the department has assisted federal agencies, including marshals, when instances required cooperation. "I have never said I won't help," the sheriff said, and added the office would still detain persons arrested and use available systems to check warrants when necessary.
