Montrose council accepts firefighter resignation, approves FDIC travel for chief and assistant

The City of Montrose council on Feb. 10 accepted the resignation of volunteer firefighter Nicholas Mondragon, effective Jan. 14, 2025, and approved travel to the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) for the fire chief and assistant chief.
"In your packet is the January 2025 activity report," the fire chief told council while reviewing department updates and personnel items. Councilmember motioned to accept Mondragon's resignation; the motion passed 4-0.
The council also authorized mileage reimbursement and conference-registration fees for the April FDIC trip to Indianapolis. "FDIC is a conference that's held every year. It improves networking, investigating new equipment and apparatus, exploring innovations in the fire service," the fire chief said, explaining the value of attendance. He estimated mileage reimbursement would be about $910 when traveling in one vehicle and said he and his assistant chief would personally cover lodging costs for this trip.
The council voted 4-0 to authorize the reimbursements. The chief said he would attempt to secure conference-registration reimbursement through the state and that he and the assistant chief would forgo lodging reimbursement. No additional personnel action was taken during the meeting.
