SmartHealth program to wind down; board told to expect contract and data-retention actions
Summary
HCA staff told the board SmartHealth and its $125 incentive will wind down after 2027 (last year to earn is calendar year 2027, with payout in early 2028); staff highlighted plans for contract closure with WebMD and the need to manage data retention and security.

John, the benefits strategy and design section manager, presented the annual SmartHealth update and engagement numbers. He reminded the board that last year’s legislation begins the sunset process for the SmartHealth incentive and online platform: calendar year 2027 will be the last year members can earn the $125 SmartHealth incentive and payout would occur in early 2028. "So that's the reason we've had this 3 year kind of runway to sunset the program," John said.
Staff described work on communications to members, contract wind-down activities with WebMD (the vendor for the online platform), and data-retention and security planning to ensure personal data is transferred or destroyed appropriately when the program ends. The board heard that staff will inventory related board resolutions and bring recommended rescissions or amendments next year so the agency can close out the program thoughtfully and preserve effective wellness components going forward.
