Bowen explained the increase was intended to support a 24/7 EMS model with multiple units, noting that without additional levy revenue the county would need to draw more than $1.4 million from the general fund over two years. Board members discussed the budget’s major drivers, including mandated 2% salary increases, increases in health insurance and school funding, and a projected $300,000 reduction in regional jail expenses. After discussion the board voted to advertise the budget, schedule the tax‑rate public hearing for June 11 and the adoption meeting for June 18.
Board members acknowledged CARES contributions to the new animal shelter and asked for clarifying documentation for certain program allocations. Administrator Bowen said proposed transfers and adjustments would be published with the advertisement and that the budget would be available on the county website for public review.
