Webster explores leasing old-school space for Post Office; USPS site visit expected

Mayor Tracy Rodes updated the board on conversations with Mandy Mills, director of the Southwestern Child Development Commission (SWCDC), and Stephanie Lovedahl, SWCDC manager, about leasing space at the old school for a Post Office. The facility was toured and appears to meet USPS requirements for square footage and parking; SWCDC is expecting a site visit from a USPS architect to confirm suitability and will report results to the town.
SWCDC also plans several fundraisers to support building maintenance; the first Bingo Night is scheduled for Aug. 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participants may reserve bingo cards by calling Jamie Cunningham at 828-586-5561 or emailing lovedahl.stephanie@swcdcinc.org; events will have a limited number of 100 cards and include a 50/50 raffle. Commissioners discussed whether to renew their Sylva PO Box (rental ends in August) versus installing a locking rural mailbox at Town Hall for public convenience and security while the potential Post Office location is evaluated.
