Emery lays out groundwater plan and urges drilling of new high-school well

Jamie Emery, of Emery and Garrett Groundwater Investigations, presented a three-part approach the county should pursue to maintain sustainable drinking water supply. Emery told the board that the plan centers on “Three Major Components to maintain sustainability of drinking water,” which he listed as groundwater protection, groundwater monitoring and groundwater exploration.
Emery identified immediate next steps for securing future supply, including drilling a new well to serve the county high school and exploring new groundwater sources in previously untested areas using geophysical surveys. The presentation also cataloged operational capacity measures discussed later in the meeting, such as bringing previously drilled wells (4A and 4B) online, reducing inflow and infiltration in the sewer system, and expanding the county wastewater treatment plant to meet projected demand.
County Administrator Eric S. Pollitt and Director of Public Works Daryl Gough were present for the briefing and did not propose formal action during the session; the items were presented as staff recommendations for future capital and operational planning. No vote or formal commitment to fund drilling was recorded in the work session minutes.
