Police report: 206 calls in two weeks; Fire Department plans tornado drill and notes daytime staffing gap

Mayor Jim Kreemer told the council that the Long Prairie Police Department logged 206 calls between March 26 and April 9, averaging 14.71 calls per day; the tally included 78 traffic-related calls, 49 assists, 9 thefts and assorted ordinance complaints. No outside training or department activities were reported for the period.
Fire Chief Dan Laumeyer reported on recruitment and outreach events, a planned tornado drill as part of severe weather awareness week and a township fire contract meeting. Laumeyer said the department has a low number of firefighters in town during daytime hours; he noted Browerville Fire Department staff who work in town could assist and that the chief will seek paperwork from Browerville to allow paid assistance without conflict of interest.
