City staff update Rolling Hills ‘safe unit’ rollout: discounted at‑cost option for residents

Staff presented a status update on the safe‑unit pilot and said residents responded enthusiastically to demonstrations. HQE provided a purchasing link and staff said Rolling Hills residents will receive a unique discount code that reduces the retail price to the city's at‑cost price of $92.84 (exclusive of tax, shipping and handling), resulting in an estimated resident total of approximately $149 per unit in the initial run. HQE reported about 150 units are currently available to ship and will start additional manufacturing runs as orders increase.
Samantha Crew, the city's emergency awareness coordinator, said staff will share the updated QR code and purchase link and that the city anticipates a communitywide safe‑unit test in late September. Council received and filed the status update and asked staff to coordinate with county first responders about a possible two‑way communication feature the vendor described.
