Board denies request to paint lines at skate park, citing maintenance and residency issues

The parks board considered an Old Business request relayed by staff from skateboarder Ryan Ash (from Niles) asking that painted lines be applied to the skate park and pump track to help with a progressive eye disease that impairs vision.
Staff said properly applied lines would require repeat maintenance (about every three years) and the department lacks capacity for long-term upkeep. Board member Jennifer Mastroianni moved to inform the requester that the board was unable to honor the request because of long-term maintenance concerns and because the requesters were not residents of Alliance; President Harry Paidas seconded. The roll call vote was recorded as all in favor and the motion carried.
