The Ross Valley Sanitary District board voted Feb. 18 to approve Contract Change Order No. 2 for the FY24‑25 gravity sewer improvement projects (Project 958) with Clausing Engineering, in an amount not to exceed $1,164,906.30.
Staff described the change order as mostly owner‑directed, adding nearly a half‑mile of additional pipe footage adjacent to the original work, replacing abandoned laterals that had been sources of inflow, and addressing manholes showing tidal inflow. Phil, the project lead, said the extras were undertaken opportunistically while the contractor was mobilized and that the additional work was performed at prices that were publicly bid. Brian McCray (joining from Zoom Engineering) confirmed the change order reconciles multiple accumulated items and that a final, smaller balancing change order will follow at project completion.
Board members asked about schedule, project start (design in 2023, contract approved Feb. last year, construction notice to proceed in May) and how the change order balances quantities; staff said much of the added work improves system resiliency and was cost‑effective because the contractor was already mobilized. The motion to approve the change order passed unanimously.
