Commissioners approve 2024 Noxious Weed report and 2025 control plan

Harvey County Commissioners unanimously approved the 2024 Annual Noxious Weed Eradication Report and the county’s 2025 Noxious Weed Management Plan on May 20. Noxious Weed Director Rex Yohn presented the 2024 report summarizing treatments, acreage figures and fund balances and described the 2025 control priorities required by the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
The materials before the commission included acreage treated for target species, a financial summary showing a total Noxious Weed Fund revenue and expenditure picture, and proposed integrated control methods (biological, chemical, cultural and mechanical). Terry Scott moved to approve the report and control plan; Becky Reimer seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Yohn also reported an equipment incident where an ATV came loose from a trailer, flipped and landed in a ditch; he said no other vehicles were involved and that insurance and repair estimates are being pursued.
The approved plan lists target species, legal citations used for county control standards and the department’s outreach and enforcement approach for 2025.
