The Vashon-Maury Community Council on Nov. 20 elected Meg Thompson to its board in a voice/hand vote reported as 19–0. Thompson was unable to attend the meeting because of a medical emergency; the council displayed and read her written statement.
Jen Rocovic read that Thompson is education director at Vashon Repertory Theater, a longtime youth-arts educator, and that she lives on Vashon with her son. The statement said Thompson wants to focus on culture and development of affordable housing. After members spoke in favor, the council moved to a vote and the chair announced the motion passed.
