Brian (speaker 13), who presented the draft, said the ordinance was designed to strengthen public safety, animal safety and environmental protections by helping animal control and first responders know what exotic animals are present in the county. "This ordinance will strengthen and ensure that the county has the knowledge and ability to handle any situation that may arise dealing with wild or exotic animals," the presenter said. The packet included draft application and permit documents for public review, and supervisors voted to advertise the ordinance for consideration at the November meeting.
Supervisors discussed comparability with neighboring counties and praised the drafter's work; staff will collect public comment and bring any recommended edits back with the advertised ordinance.
