District to participate in PED summer reading program; tutors to be background‑checked

"Parents are encouraged to sign up their students for the program and anyone in the community is encouraged to apply to be a tutor," Segura said; she added that non‑employee tutors will follow the PED registration and background process and that the state supplies training and curriculum.
Board members asked about language supports and transportation. Segura said PED is working to expand materials and that Spanish resources will be accommodated, and she confirmed the district will use existing summer transportation resources and summer meals for participating students. The board identified Laura Smith as the district's secondary program coordinator and asked staff to publicize participation and logistics to families through the district's standard channels.
