SLR details tree species and low‑maintenance plantings; residents request inventory and assurances

Samantha Stewart, a landscape architect with SLR, told the meeting the team intends to diversify tree plantings with seven or eight different species and to avoid tall species under overhead lines. "We have at least 7, if not 8, different species that are gonna be planted," Stewart said, and offered to inventory existing street trees to refine selections.
Residents asked for a full planting list for trees, shrubs and perennials; Stewart said the project web page will include species lists and that she is open to follow‑up suggestions by email. The plan calls for low‑maintenance perennials (listed on the project boards as little bluestem, tufted hairgrass and several daylilies) and aims to minimize long‑term upkeep.
Town staff and the consultant said maintenance responsibilities for planted medians and green strips created by the project would fall to the town (per project authorization letter) while property owners remain responsible for sidewalk snow removal under existing town rules.
