Town officials and consultants presented a 60% design for a connectivity project intended to add sidewalks, a multiuse trail, lighting and bus shelters along Amity Road, Bradley Road and Lucy Street.
First Selectman Mika Cardoza said the project is the first phase of broader place‑making efforts and is funded by an $8,000,000 state grant. "This is an $8,000,000 grant from the state, and this is phase 1," Cardoza said, describing the work as focused on transportation, streetscapes, traffic calming and sidewalks.
Paul DeStefano, lead engineer for SLR, told attendees the town secured full construction funding through the state local transportation capital improvement program and outlined the project footprint from the southern property line of the plaza north on Amity Road past Bradley, as well as work on Bradley and Lucy streets. "The town was successful in getting that full grant, which will cover the full construction cost of the project," DeStefano said.
The design team said the current plans are at the 60% stage and that additional refinements will follow after public comments. Officials said materials and planting lists will be posted on the project web page and asked residents to submit further input so consultants can incorporate feasible changes before final design.
