Mayor Chad Gluss administered the oath of office to Brian Cavanaugh as Assistant Fire Chief and to Jack Garrity as a patrolman in the Olmsted Falls Police Department during the June 9 council meeting.
Gluss said adding a second command position in the fire department will strengthen succession and training. "we just swore in a chief and assistant chief in the Olmsted Fall Fire Department and he believes it was imperative for a second command in the department," he said. He also said the police department can move to 12-hour shifts, a change he described as important for hiring and retention after the recent loss of an officer to another jurisdiction.
The swearing-in was followed by a brief recess for photographs. Council did not take further formal personnel votes at the meeting; the appointments were administered by the mayor as part of the personnel process and recorded in the meeting minutes.
