The Community Administration committee recommended that the city council place advisory referendum language drafted by bond counsel on the November ballot.
Grant Litikin, summarizing the prior Committee of the Whole discussion, said the council would not be approving bond financing by forwarding the language; rather, the committee is being asked to place an advisory question on the ballot so voters can provide input. "You are simply approving to place this question as an advisory question on the November election," Grant said.
A public commenter identified as Ron asked whether the $5,000,000 referenced in earlier drafts came from library savings or from city reserves. Ron said: "The only question I have… the 5,000,000 is not coming from the vast wealth of the city. It's coming from the 5,000,000 that the library board had has saved up." Grant confirmed the library funds remain under the city's financial umbrella but that the amount referenced reflected library savings.
The committee moved, seconded and voted to forward the ballot language to the full council for consideration.
