Superintendent Segura presented the recommendation, saying the district lacked the staffing and the established systems at Paredes to deliver the accelerated growth required in the compressed timeline. "I am recommending that Paredes Middle School, the students there, be reassigned to both Mendez and Bailey," Segura told trustees during the presentation. The motion was moved by Trustee Whitley Chu and seconded by Trustee Foster; the board recorded seven votes in favor and two opposed (Trustees DeRuyolce and Quintana).
The administration said the reassignment is driven by an assessment of student-level STAR and MAP data and site staffing; Segura acknowledged the decision's disruption and described meet-and-greets, registration dates (Aug. 3 and Aug. 6) and a district phone bank to contact families. Trustees asked for regular updates as the transition is implemented.
