Sylvania City Council held a public hearing on SUP 4-2025, a request from William Gross to allow an open, galvanized-steel carport adjacent to a house at 5910 Balfour Road. Gross told council the structure will be a roof-only, A-frame carport sized to custom dimensions so off-the-shelf rounded-edge models would not fit: "we're looking at just putting a steel, galvanized steel carport," he said.
Council confirmed the municipal planning commission had reviewed the request on Nov. 12 and recommended approval unanimously. After brief questions from council, Councilmember Murphy moved to advance legislation to that evening's council meeting; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously. Later in the meeting the council adopted Ordinance 14-2026 as an emergency measure granting the special-use permit, citing the planning commission recommendation and the petitioner's compliance conditions.
