"My name is Dean Sellers. I work with Moon Lake Electric Association," he said, and offered to gather feedback for the cooperative's general manager. Sellers discussed wholesale service provided by Deseret Generation & Transmission and described regional conversations about new generation technologies, including small modular nuclear reactors under discussion in neighboring states.
Sellers said Deseret is installing selective catalytic reduction (SCR) equipment at the coal plant and that, in his understanding, the retrofit "would prolong the life of the power plant, I think, to 2035, at least." He also noted that discussions in Utah's legislature and among utility boards are ongoing; he volunteered to reach out to Deseret to report back if the council wanted more information.
Council members asked clarifying questions about coal leases and regional political dynamics that affect power generation choices. Sellers said Moon Lake seeks community engagement and will relay council feedback to its managers.
