Residents press board on speeding, narrow shoulders; VDOT says repairs and resurfacing planned

At the start of the public‑comment period, resident Paul White told supervisors he is "dodging drivers in my lane significantly more than in the past," described distracted and impaired driving, and urged a cross‑agency comprehensive plan involving courts, the sheriff's office, schools and VDOT. He told the board, "we're spending $9,300,000 in public safety bucket," arguing resources exist to coordinate a safety response.

A second resident, Ben Barley, described long‑standing pavement deterioration and narrow road edges on Clementown Road and nearby stretches, said two crashes had landed on his property and asked VDOT to inspect the corridor. VDOT area staff representative Rebecca acknowledged the complaints, said shoulder‑and‑edge striping were part of a prior safety project, and promised to "confirm that that is the case for these roads" and follow up. She also reported crews have been conducting pothole patching across localities after winter storms and said the office is participating in preconstruction meetings for resurfacing; two Route 360 sections have been scheduled for plant‑mix asphalt resurfacing this year.
