The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 93 (Shawnee) met in special session on Sept. 24, 2024, and voted to convene an executive session to discuss the employment of Dr. Aaron Espolt and to have confidential communications with the district's legal counsel regarding a pending investigation. The motion to convene cited 25 O.S. § 307 (B)(2) for personnel matters and 25 O.S. § 307 (B)(4) for confidential communications with counsel; it was made by Turner Bass and seconded by Mandy Hillhouse and carried 7–0.
The minutes list the board members present and note that Dr. Teresa Wilkerson and the district's legal counsel, Justin Cliburn, were present physically during the executive session. The special session began with roll call at 8:00 AM at the Board of Education administration building in Shawnee. The motion text recorded in the minutes says the executive session would address: (a) the employment of Dr. Aaron Espolt and (b) confidential communications with legal counsel concerning a pending investigation, claim, or action.
