"They were essential services," Mayor Robin L. Laubaugh said, noting that the community would notice quickly if any of those services were unavailable. She invited Public Works Manager Scott Wasley and Sanitation Supervisor Dave Sekala to the podium and thanked department staff for working "day in and day out." Wasley told the council he could not speak highly enough of the crews and added, "who could live without sanitation," drawing applause from the chamber.
The proclamation, signed May 6, 2026, used the 2026 theme "Rooted in Service, Powered by Community" and encourages residents to recognize the contributions of public works professionals who support the city’s quality of life.
