The council unanimously approved resolutions to schedule public hearings and hearings related to the 2025 budget. Comptroller Tony told the council he was requesting approval to set a public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024 to receive public input "regarding the possible need to override the New York state cap tax cap of 2% with the 2025 adopted budget," and to schedule two budget hearings: Oct. 28 (city manager's tentative budget) and Nov. 12 (final council version and likely vote).
City staff said the Oct. 28 hearing will allow residents additional time to review the tentative manager's budget (which they said had been posted online since Oct. 1) and to raise questions that could then be considered in the council's Nov. 12 hearing and vote. The council voted to add scheduling resolutions to the evening's calendar and carried the motions without recorded opposition.
