La Marque council names Shauna Dowell Burkhart permanent city manager

The La Marque City Council voted on July 27 to appoint Shauna Dowell Burkhart as the city’s permanent city manager following interviews with two finalists. The appointment was announced immediately after council votes and will be finalized once background checks are completed and a contract is negotiated.
The council interviewed finalists in executive session and then put separate motions on the floor for Michael Delmore and for Shauna Dowell Burkhart. After the votes, the presiding officer announced, “We have a new permanent city manager… congratulations, Miss Burkhart.” The council indicated the appointment is contingent on criminal, employment-history and education verifications performed by ClearCareer before entering any contractual obligation.
The council did not discuss specific contract terms during the open meeting; staff and counsel said negotiations and the background checks would follow. The city expects Mrs. Burkhart to be available to start in late August and asked staff to prepare an acting manager plan for the interim period.
