Mabton using temporary chlorination as boil order remains in effect

Jay told the council the city had only one functioning chlorination point (Well 4) before the recent outage, which left the system without adequate post-chlorination and placed the city under a precautionary boil order. To address that, staff installed a temporary tap at Well 5 and began feeding chlorine from drums into the reservoir that supplies the distribution system.
"We did do a temporary tap. Got that completed. We are feeding chlorine in the system today," Jay said, and added he would pull representative samples the next morning and send them to the lab "so we can get that precautionary boil order lifted" if results are satisfactory. Jay said three distribution samples will be taken from approved sample stations representing the furthest points in the system.
Staff also said the chlorine feed is currently manual because the chlorine pump is not integrated with the well controls; they recommended eventually tying chlorination into the motor control so feed rates would start and stop with the well. The council asked for sample results and a timeline for lifting the boil order; staff will report back after lab results are available.
